The first drought and the first corpses is a typical situation for an opening game. And for this it is necessary to organize the production of materials and provide a sufficient number of workers, who, in turn, need to eat something and live somewhere. Beavers, exhausted by thirst, die very quickly, so it is better to stock up ahead of time – for storage, you can build special barrels that do not care about drought. The fact is that at the end of each time cycle, a drought sets in – rivers and reservoirs, from where the inhabitants take water for drinking, gradually become shallow and eventually dry up completely. Water plays a huge role in the life of the settlement. The ability to place buildings on top of each other, developing the city in a vertical plane, is another important feature of the game. There would be food (albeit the simplest, such as berries) and, most importantly, water. However, there is no particular point in maintaining them at a high level yet – beavers do their job anyway. There are other needs: communication, spirituality, comfort – more than ten items in total. Food is needed both for the banal survival of the inhabitants, and to satisfy their needs for a variety of diet – this gives positive effects, such as increased strength or increased speed of carrying objects. The story is the same with food products: wild berries, three types of seed plants and three buildings for their processing – a grill, a mill and a bakery, that’s all. A rather meager set of production chains, but you can write it off as early access. Beavers cut trees into logs, and from them they already make all other materials – boards, wooden gears and paper. Wood is valuable here – it is the main building resource for both factions. If the river becomes shallow, then windmills will take over. They do not reproduce naturally, unlike the beavers from the Tails of the World, but raise new inhabitants in incubators, and in general are more technologically advanced – they, for example, have a wood-burning engine. Iron Teeth, one of the two factions currently available, are more inclined towards metal. Only the ruins of cities, which can be found on the map and dismantled for spare parts, remind of the former greatness of people – iron will also come in handy for beavers. But for unknown reasons, humanity died out, but the little lovers of nibbling trees remained. To be precise, there is no specific goal here – entertain yourself, which also fits into the genre, in which the main thing is the process, not the result.ĭespite the fact that the main characters in Timberborn are beavers, once upon a time this world belonged to people. At the beginning we have only one building and a dozen inhabitants, the player’s task is to build a huge city inhabited by hundreds of beavers. Timberborn is a classic city-building strategy, at first glance, even too standard. ![]() Dams and dams, industrial-scale logging and landscape modification sound tempting, but is there enough content in this “early access” for an interesting and comfortable game?
